How enlistment works

careers.gov.vin is the single point of enlistment for every department of the Velocity Interoperability Network. The procedure is the same whichever department you choose, and it rests on three rules adopted on 6 September 2026.

First, there is one form. A candidate enlists with any department by completing the same form and naming the department on it; no department runs a form of its own. Second, the Careers Office is a conduit and nothing more. It passes each enlistment, unchanged, to the department named on it, and takes no view on the candidate. Third, the department decides. Everything from acknowledgement to appointment is done by the department, on a common procedure and on common terms.

Before you begin. The form takes a few minutes to complete. It helps to have the following ready.

A decision on the department
Read what each department does on its own site and choose one. If you have a particular vacancy in mind, note its reference and the department that notified it.
An email address you check
Every stage after enlistment is conducted by email. The department writes to the address you give on the form and to no other.
A short statement
A few sentences on why you wish to serve and what you would bring. If you are responding to a vacancy, begin with its reference. There is no minimum length; a clear paragraph is enough.
Answers to the department's questions
Each department asks a small number of questions of its own, shown on the form once you have chosen it. Read them before you begin so that you can answer them in one sitting.

The procedure. Seven steps take an enlistment from the form to a department's decision.

  1. Step 1: Choose a department

Read what each department does on its own site, then decide where you would like to serve. One enlistment names one department. To enlist with more than one, submit a separate enlistment for each.

  2. Step 2: Complete the enlistment form

Give your name, contact details and a short statement, and answer the questions set by the department you chose. Fields marked required must be completed. If you are responding to a vacancy, quote its reference at the start of your statement.

  3. Step 3: Receive the Office's confirmation

On submission the form confirms that your enlistment has been received and names the department it will be passed to. Keep the name and email address you gave; you will need them for any correspondence.

  4. Step 4: The Careers Office passes it on

The Careers Office does not assess enlistments. Each one is passed, unchanged and on the day it is received, to the department named on it. The Office keeps no copy.

  5. Step 5: The department acknowledges it

The department writes within five working days to confirm receipt and to name the officer handling your enlistment.

  6. Step 6: The department reviews it

The department considers enlistments as positions are established, or against the vacancy you quoted. It may write to you with further questions and may invite you to an assessment before making a decision.

  7. Step 7: The department contacts you

You will hear from the department, not the Careers Office, at the email address you provided, whether or not you are appointed.

Departments enlisting

2 departments currently enlist through the Careers Office, and between them have notified 9 vacancies. Each names the areas of service in which it is establishing positions; a candidate is asked to choose one of these on the form. The remaining departments of the Network will be added as they open positions.
